McDonough State Forest
Lands and other areas provide access to hundreds-of-miles of multi-use
and specific trails for hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling and
cross-country skiing.
A combination of pines and hardwoods, upland
and wetlands, and meadows and scrub offer habitat to many unique species of
birds and mammals. McDonough is a favored spot for hikers, bird watchers
and nature photographers. Blue Heron, Paragine Falcon, several species
of owls and hawks - in all over 130 species of birds inhabit the
McDonough State Forest. Approximately 50 species of mammals and nearly
as many reptiles and amphibians add to the majesty of the forest and
remind us of what we miss in urban environments.
Regardless of your
preferred mode of travel, McDonough has trails that suit your needs and
provide hours of splendor, serenity and being "at one" with nature.
