McDonough

McDonough students have a variety of private schools, as well as the Cincinnatus, Norwich and Oxford School Districts to draw from (depending on location). Generally, most of the Town's students attend Oxford Academy and Central School. The long established institution was chartered by the State of New York in 1794 as a private school. The original school site still serves the district as location for the Middle School for grades 5 - 8. Two campuses make up the district, one at Fort Hill Park and the other on Washington Avenue. The Primary School (pre-K - 4) is located with the High School (grades 9-12) at the Washington Avenue campus.

The Primary School was recently renovated and now houses 330 students in 21 regular education classrooms and 1 special education self-contained classroom. The students also enjoy a new play playground and computers. The school is fully staffed beyond classroom teachers with academic intervention services, an occupational/physical therapist, a teaching assistant, and teacher aides..

The Middle School, built in 1930 and expanded in 1953 is the seventh Academy building. The colonial-style structure, with its classical six column entrance and bell tower provides an inviting and safe environment for students. This building received major renovation in 1993-94 and additional improvements in 2002 - 2003. The site also houses the District Office and the Bus Garage.

A new High School was constructed in 2003. The state-of-the-art facility houses a fully automated media center; 3 multi-media computer labs and a mobile wireless computer lab. New additions to the technology area are a darkroom and TV studio. Fine Arts has also been expanded. The air-conditioned auditorium seats 600 and the double station gymnasium holds 700 spectators. Sports are big at Oxford and there is something for nearly everyone. Besides a weight room, the High School also has  athletic fields for a variety of programs such as baseball, softball and tennis. The new facility also includes an expanded Music Department to complement its award-winning choral and instrumental programs.
