Park roads wind through forests. Camping, swimming, picnicking, fishing, boating, bird watching (103 species). Nature center has self-guided trail brochure for trail around the lake. Winter snowmobiling, XC skiing.

Facilities: 653 acres with 198 campsites of which 158 are trailer sites, the remainder are tent sites; 35 acre lake, hot showers and flush toilets, nature trails, pavilion, playing fields and playground.

Pets: Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet.

Hunt's Pond State Park

Hunt's Pond is a small park in a quiet setting with 18 primitive campsites, a picnic area, and a boat launch site. The park does not have established trails, but adjacent DEC land is available for visitors to use for hiking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Open year-round. A portion of the park is open for hunting during deer season.

Pets: Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet.

Primitive Camping on State Lands    top

 
Balsam Pond Approximately 4 miles from McDonough. From the hamlet take County Route 7 to Beckwith Road. Turn right on Beckwith to Balsam-Tyler Road. Turn left on Balsam-Tyler to pond.

Out house, camping, fishing, boating.

Lake Ludlow Lean-to
on Finger Lakes Trail
Along Finger Lakes Hiking Trail (Map M25). To access from McDonough, take State Route 220 to E. McDonough. Turn right on Corbin Rd. to "Y" in road. Bear right at "Y" and take Hoben Rd. to Ludlow Rd. Lean-to is approximately .5 miles in.

Hike in only. Lean-to, water.

"The Ledges" Located in the Five Streams State Forest. From McDonough, take County Route 5 west toward German approximately 1.75 miles to Skillman Road (on the left). The Ledges are located on the right about 2.5 miles down Skillman Rd. Camp areas can be found on either side of the stream.

No facilities. Several secluded spots along the creek excellent for tent camping.

Long Pond

To access the Long Pond State Forest from McDonough, take County Route 5 to Willet to State Route 41 East. Camping and fishing access is just off the highway. From areas around McDonough, take State Route 41 East from Cincinnatus, or West from Greene.

Ten secluded campsites are located around Long Pond. Each site has a fireplace, parking pad and access to a community latrine. A day use area, with parking and picnic tables is located adjacent to the dam.
