S several
"work bees" have been attended by several volunteers from around
the community. Library shelving has been donated, as well as,
donations of computers and over 1000 books. The McDonough Library
(housed in Calvary Community Center) is a branch of the Oxford
Memorial Library and a member of the Four County Library System.
These affiliations allow the McDonough Library to offer full
services such as inter-library loan, online card catalog and other
services that you have been getting from the Cybermobile or other
libraries. It is expected that the library will display at least
2000 books, plus there will be a children's space and high-speed
Internet access. Computing equipment, instructions for using the
equipment and up-to-date software will help businesses and
students attain their goals. You will also find a trained,
friendly and knowledgeable staff to help with your needs. Special
programs will also be available soon.
The Community Center will provide a
wide range of events including performing arts, movies, historic
presentations and music. The Center is available for rental for
weddings and funerals (the alter, many pews and organ will be left
in their original state (or as close as possible).
There is still a lot of work to be
done, but it is hopeful that the Center will be open in early
spring. Several generous contributions have been received and have
helped pay for cleaning, paint, utilities, a sign and membership
to the Four County Library System. This project gets no funding
from the Town, but the library will receive a portion of the
library tax that is paid with school taxes.
We need your support and that of
local government. Please send letters to the Town Board in care of
Art Cannor or Town Board members indicating your support and
requesting that of the Board. There are also petitions available
at the McDonough General Store -- please sign and indicate the
hours that you would like to see the library open. Thank you so
much for your help with this project. .
